Tips for Telehealth Counselling

Telehealth is a great way to access Mental Health Support as it can be done from the comfort of your own home, with greater flexibility of time. Telehealth Services will be offered via Zoom. Briefly before your session is about to begin, you can expect an email with the Zoom link and meeting details.

Telehealth will require you to have a secure and stable internet connection on a device that is video and voice compatible. Technology can catch us by surprise at times, so in the unfortunate circumstance we are disconnected, the session can continue via phone. This will be discussed further in our initial session.

Here are some additional tips to help  make the most of your Telehealth experience:

  • Ensure you are in a safe, comfortable and confidential space free of distractions

  • Have some comforts on hand – whether a pet, a blanket or a warm cup of tea

  • If you wish, you can bring along a notepad with some discussion points or to jot down some ideas

  • Have someone in mind that you can reach out to after the session if needed

Preparing for your first Counselling Session

I appreciate that Counselling is a place of vulnerability – especially in the initial sessions. I will focus the first session on gently building rapport. This will be a great opportunity to discuss your strengths, needs and current challenges and explore how we can begin working together. In this session, I will also explore confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality. There will be plenty of time during this session to ask any questions you may have.

To prepare, you may find it helpful to:

  • Jot down some ideas or questions that you’d like to bring to session

  • Arrange to check in with a trusted person after the session

  • Attend the session, fully present with minimal distractions

  • Bring along any referral paperwork that you may have

All counselling sessions will be taken at your pace. As we work together, I will check in on how you are finding the session and pace.

Preparing for your first Clinical Supervision Session

I will focus the first session on getting to know you and your professional goals and needs. We will also discuss your learning styles and what you hope to obtain from Clinical Supervision.  This will be a great opportunity for us to get to know one another. In this session, we will discuss our professional boundaries and responsibilities. I ask that you come prepared with an understanding of the Supervision and CPD Requirements for your registering body. Please note that I am registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
